In 2018, American Crafts Council (ACC) inducted Yoshiko I. Wada as an Honorary Fellow into the ACC College of Fellows, The 2016 George Hewitt Myers Award for the lifetime achievement in the filed of textile art from The Textile Museum and George Washington University Museum honored Yoshiko Iwamoto Wada for her work as an artist, curator, historian, and teacher. With over forty years of experience, Yoshiko has continually advocated and advanced the historical and contemporary textile and fiber art field that which she has been actively teaching worldwide. The Smithsonian Institution’s Renwick Gallery of American Crafts awarded her the James Renwick Alliance Award for the 2010 Distinguished Craft Educator-Master of Medium award. She travels extensively giving lectures and workshops, and participates in conferences to build greater network of artists, scholars, artisans, businesses, growers of cotton and natural dye plants across the world. Yoshiko is president of the World Shibori Network, founder of Slow Fiber Studios, and Adjunct Professor at the Institute of Textile and Costumes Hong Kong Polytechnic University, from 2011 to 2019.
She co-chaired successfully the 10th ISS, International Shibori Symposium, with Alejandro de Avila in Oaxaca, Mexico in November 2016 and in 2018, the 11th ISS in Japan in 2018 with Hiroko Watanabe and Hiroshi Murase. For 2019, she will be leading a study tours to China, France and Japan for the Slow Fiber Studios.
She co-chaired the 9th International Shibori Symposium (ISS) with Zhao Feng at the China National Silk Museum (CNSM), Hangzhou October 31-November 4, 2014. See all the ISS she has co-chaired since 1992.
